Whitchurch, Hampshire-based John Dollin Printing Services has said its recently installed HP Indigo 5500 has already proved a significant boost to productivity.

The sheetfed company replaced its initial digital machine with which it had first ventured into digital printing some seven years ago with the 5500 and is finding it fully utilised with runs up to 100,000 pages.

It is also finding that the versatility of the press is being used. "We've used a number of the press's abilities to add value to products and undertake different work for customers," said John Dollins digital manager Chris Andrews.

"Having also chosen HP's Thick Substrate Kit, we can now print on materials up to 450gsm, as well as use the press for self-adhesive label printing - which we couldn't do on our previous press."

He added: "We've also used Digital Matte ink that creates a spot varnish effect, and also HP Indigo White Ink." The company also said that demand for personalised print, particularly for marketing materials, is flourishing.

John Dollin operates an extended day shift and offers prepress, conventional and digital printing as well as fulfilment services with a broad customer base comprising 60% trade and 40% direct customers.
