Signpost Solutions says its Biker-Mate product is saving the lives of motorcyclists after being installed in a number of UK counties and abroad. Biker-Mate is a modular system made from polypropylene which is fitted to signposts, traffic signals and lampposts and is designed to absorb energy and divert force when struck by a motorbike.
The product is comprised of plastic 'pressload' modules which reduces initial kinetic energy. The structural damage to the absorber modules then creates a pattern which diverts the biker from the rigid object, therefore reducing the risk of injuries or death. Signpost states that motorcyclists are 'often overlooked', with road safety features usually aimed at motorists.

"Comprehensive tests show that Biker-Mate has a 30 percent absorption capacity of the impact energy; a reduction which can mean the difference between life and death to bikers travelling at high speed," says Alan Nicholas, marketing director, Signpost Solutions.
Signpost adds that Biker-Mate, developed with Euro Road Safety, is UV stable and physically stable between –35oC and +80oC.
