Scala recommends buyers start with a pilot deployment, and then look for a system that can be used straight out of the box or is 'infinitely customisable', which features intuitive templates and a web-based interface, software as a service, central management over the web, can connect with 'virtually any data source', has a stable, proven platform, and offers content scheduling, measurement facilities and mobility such as QR code connectivity.

The Digital Signage Checklist also urges DSE attendees to consider kiosk integration, social media links, advanced analytics software, and the ability to change content dynamically.
