Océ has revealed details about its carbon offset programme for VarioPrint 6000 series digital printers on its fifth anniversary.
The manufacturer teamed up with Shining Earth, the sustainability division of environmental consultancy Delta-Simons, to create the Carbon Positive Plus+ scheme, which saw CO2 consumption offset by 200 percent for every machine sold in the UK. Some 12,175 tonnes of CO2 have been saved since the creation of the scheme in 2007 – equivalent to 7,609 passengers flying from London Heathrow to New York, according to Océ.
The carbon-positive VarioPrint project has seen 9,476 tonnes offset in methane capture and renewable energy development through The CarbonNeutral Company, and 2,699 tonnes through the planting of 13,500 trees with the Woodland Trust.
"By offsetting over 12,000 tonnes of CO2, including planting 13,500 trees, Océ's commitment to the environment and more sustainable business practice is clear," states Gareth Pickles, managing director of Delta-Simons. "Through this scheme, we believe that Océ has raised the standard in environmental performance in the print sector."
"Being able to help our clients with their environmental aspirations and responsibilities has helped differentiate Océ as a responsible partner to the printing industry," adds Bron Curley, managing director of Océ UK.
