Scitex engines help Image Factory phase out screen

Chippenham-based Image Factory has invested in a Scitex FB7600 flat-bed from HP to move more graphics jobs across from screen printing processes. Key to the move was the addition of the white ink upgrade kit, enabling the wide-format house to produce with white onto substrates up to 25mm thick.

The UV-curable Scitex FB7600 outputs at 290sq m/hr in productivity mode and sits as part of an MIS workflow, allowing Image Factory to monitor its consumables spend closely. The company also opted for a multi-sheet loader for both Scitex units, which HP says will help it 'maximise productivity'.

"The addition of the white ink was part of the process to phase out screen printing," comments Tim Boore, head of digital technologies for Image Factory. "The results are excellent and it is far more cost-effective.

"The ability to print white really puts the last nail in the coffin for screen as far as we're concerned. We will retain our last screen line for one- and two-colour jobs and special projects requiring metallic inks, but our normal work is going to be digital."
