Xerox's new CiPress SED systems offer PSPs an entry point option with a small footprint for variable data printing jobs

Xerox has unveiled a new Single Engine Duplex (SED) solution at Hunkeler Innovationdays designed to help 'printers of all sizes capture more variable information jobs'. The two new models, the CiPress 500 and 325 SED Production Inkjet Systems, boast a compact configuration and 'many of the same features' as their twin-engine counterparts, the CiPress 500 and 325.

Suited to PSPs with limited floor space wanting to expand into transactional, direct mail, catalogue and book printing in low volumes, the CiPress SED series prints duplex jobs one-up on a narrow 241mm web at 500ft (152m) per minute for the CiPress SED 500 or 325ft (100m) per minute on the CiPress SED 325.

The new models will use Xerox's waterless inks, which the company claims offer vibrant images on low-cost plain papers, with ink optimisation modules and usage reporting available. Xerox also says increasing volume shifts can 'easily be adjusted between the single-engine duplex and twin-engine full-width mode without purchasing an additional engine'.

Orders for the CiPress SED 500 and 325 will be taken at Hunkeler, with the first machines expected to ship in April this year.
