Sabino's son was 'very pleased' with Artwork Digital's 7m-long train

Brazilian PSP Artwork Digital has used its Inca Onset S20 to produce a 'gigantic' 3D model of a toy train, winning an IDEAs award for Interactive Display. The model was produced to display static images and TV monitors for an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Brazilian author Fernando Sabino.

Artwork Digital was first approached by Sabino's son, Bernardo, to construct a replica of the train from one of his father's works. "It was not easy to create," says R?mulo de Abreu Guimar?es of Artwork Digital. "There were lots of curves." The company called on the expertise of Stora Enso Re-board to tackle the problem, but found printing the solid colours to look hand-painted was equally challenging.

"With the Inca Onset S20, we achieved it perfectly," de Abreu comments. "In fact, people thought it was vinyl rather than print, because it was so perfect." The finished model was varnished to add 'even further realism', resulting in a 7m-long (23') replica that 'looked as though it had rolled out of Sabino's writing'.

"I liked this job very much because it was not easy to print and assemble," adds de Abreu. "I really wanted to win a prize with this one."
