Kodak Gives Finch Paper Three Diamonds in Paper Rating Program

To help users select the ideal paper for their PROSPER Press applications, Kodak’s Paper Rating Program relies on the collection and analysis of quantifiable data to determine the performance characteristics of any substrate. Kodak measures the image quality using a wide variety of factors and then rates that substrate using a system that ranges from one diamond to five diamonds.

Kodak evaluated Finch Inkjet Pi through the steps of the program and awarded it three diamonds. “We are focused on delivering the best solutions to our customers in a growing number of applications,” noted Sheldon Spicer of Finch Paper. “Working with Kodak in this program enabled us to optimize our paper for the outstanding performance of the KODAK PROSPER Press. We have a very focused approach to supporting our inkjet customers, and are committed to meeting their diverse production needs.”

Finch Paper has longstanding relationships with leading print providers in the transactional, book, and direct mail segments and is transitioning from a traditional paper manufacturer to more of a progressive solutions provider in the production inkjet space. The company’s R&D teams are very adept at tailoring solutions, often collaborating with a cluster of technology suppliers, OEM partners, and print asset owners to find effective solutions.

Kodak’s Paper Rating Program helps printers and publishers make more informed decisions about the right combination of quality and price when evaluating substrates for each of their print jobs. In assessing paper surface capabilities, six metrics quantify and characterize the image quality expectations for each paper type. Tests are conducted under standardized conditions and results are simplified by Kodak into the five-diamond rating system.

“The rating system helps customers make smart purchasing decisions,” said Don Burns, Kodak’s Business Development Director for Media. “With the quantitative rating, customers immediately know the image quality potential of a given paper, and with data, can make application-specific decisions based on economics and quality. A number of papers have already been rated, and we continue to add new papers all the time.”

The Finch Performance Inkjet portfolio includes engineered substrates such as Finch Inkjet Pi and Finch DyeJet as well as an industry-first color management program, F.I.T. by Finch. F.I.T. by Finch provides technical expertise and workflow solutions for printing businesses moving from black and white to color, and from lithography and electrophotography to inkjet web. For businesses with new installations, Finch provides the best total solution to expedite their rate of return on the investment.
