Two major new orders were placed for Durst UV-curable wide-format machines at FESPA 2013– the first by Debenhams's in-house print company, Magenta Print and Display, and the second heading to McGowans of Dublin.
Based in Taunton, Magenta Print and Display's purchase comprises a Durst Rho P10 320R and a Rho 320R HS, both roll-fed 3.2m wide-format machines which are intended to improve the quality of the photography and graphics that appear in all Debenhams stores. This investment is estimated to increase production capacity by up to three times and also provoke a growth in production onto digital textile materials.
With the retailer currently carrying out a modernisation programme of its flagship outlet in Oxford Street, London, the printers are complemented by a Fotoba cutter, a Seal laminator, a sewing machine and new workflow automation software.
The second Durst order, made by Irish digital print specialist McGowans, is for a Rho 1030 high-end hybrid which incorporates fully automatic board loading and delivery, as well as fast change-over between rigid and roll-to-roll materials. This investment follows a long-term relationship with Durst as the company still runs two Lambda machines, with additional roll-fed units possibly being earmarked to tie in with future plans.
