British dailies The Times and The Sun will now benefit from the high-speed digital imprinting afforded by Kodak's Prosper S30 systems, 22 of which are set to 'transform' behemoth publisher News UK's newspaper business.
The imprinting systems, powered by Kodak's Stream Inkjet Technology, add digital print-heads inline on offset presses, enabling variable data to be added to the output. Prosper S30 can achieve speeds of 915mpm at a 'guaranteed' resolution of 600 x 200dpi, according to Kodak, which it says represents 'unrivalled' speed and quality at low expenditure.
News UK's new cross-media strategy is timed for the imminent start of the British football season and aims to encourage users to engage across multiple platforms. The Prosper S30 units have already débuted in the launch of its Sun+ subscription strategy; readers can deploy a unique, imprinted barcode from their printed daily for access to premium digital content for one month, including 'near-live' goal footage.
"We are never complacent and continue striving to deliver greater choice and value, which is why we've invested millions in this solution to ensure every one of our loyal readers can get their hands on the huge benefits of Sun+ membership," says Sun editor David Dinsmore.
