Zim, a 3D printer intended for personal use developed by American company Zeepro, will début on Kickstarter tomorrow in a bid to raise funds. Particular to the system is its use of a dual print-head, allowing objects to be manufactured in multiple colours, as well as a refillable cartridge system.
The 80μ/layer machine claims a top speed of 110mm/s with 20 print modes accommodating novice through to expert users. With an internal area of 205 cubic inches (3,359 cubic cm), the two extruders in Zim mean that an item can be printed either with different colours, or with one channel producing a water-soluble PVA plastic support structure around the object's main architecture.
Connectivity has also been heavily considered in Zeepro's machine, which sports on-board ethernet and wifi for remote control via a tablet, smartphone or desktop application. Users can also supervise the outputting process using Zim's on-board camera.
"We dreamt about making the best personal 3D printer in the world," states Philippe Guglielmetti, chief executive of Zeepro. "We assembled a great team of highly motivated and talented designers and engineers. Together, we imagined Zim. We are very proud to present Zim on Kickstarter, starting September 13th."
