Epson has released the SurePress L-6034VW digital label printer, shown in prototype form at drupa 2012. The machine claims a number of firsts for the manufacturer: as well as being its first single-pass machine in this category, it also incorporates Epson's new PrecisionCore line-head technology and LED UV curing.

Available with or without white as the L-6034VW and L-6034V respectively, the printers output onto substrates – now including heat-sensitive media, thanks to the LED curing lamps – between 80 and 340mm wide at 15m/min. Varnish, standard on both machines, can be applied as matte or gloss, in combination or selectively, to single, multiple and alternate labels within the same run.

PrecisionCore is a new MEMS-based chip from Epson carried forward from its developments in thin-film piezo from its wide-format offerings. This drives the 'line-head', of which there are six in the L-6034VW, a single-pass array containing eleven print-head modules and a total of 52,800 nozzles, will now be incorporated across the manufacturer's technology range, from desktop to industrial printing.

Also incorporated within the L-6034VW is Nozzle State Analysis technology, which cleans and restores non-firing nozzles to optimise uptime. Epson is billing it as a high-productivity, UV-curable alternative to its aqueous SurePress L-4033AW.
