Wonderful Speech from Mr. David Ho,the CSPIA Chairman in SGIA Boarding
Good evening ladies and Gentlemen:
I am glad to join the 2013 SGIA boarding meeting again. On be half of CSPIA we wish SGIA 2013 expo a great success.
I would like to take this chance to update market situation in general in China & CSPIA current activities as requested by SGIA CEO Mr. Mike Robertson in his email to me.
Since 2008 Financial crisis, the manufacturing sector in China didnot get any better or improvement. Government figures shows they still maintain a healthy growth of 7.5 % last year, analysis from news said big part of the growth is from the real estate market and other growth in Service or Financial sector. In manufacturing definately is still difficult.
Problems in manufacturing section is pretty much the same as what I said 3 years ago at my last SGIA board meeting speech. Slower global demand, Shortage of labor, cost increases. This happened in most manufacturing section. From news and journalist we learn that Central government realized the rapid growth in the last 3 decades had created problems in environment, social impact. The unbalance GDP to environment and social issues is something need to consider. Rapidgrowth last 3 decades were drainning the country's natural resources. human, land, energy...They realize this is not the way to go in long term. We expect some measures will come from the government to discourage those low value, high labor, high pollution manufacturing in China. Garment industry is one being hard hit. Some manufacturers are moving to countries like Yetnam, Combodia, Meama, Banglardise where they still can enjoy lower labor cost. Even some high value products like handphone are diversifying manufacturing location too. Samsung has been building huge factory in Yetnam as labor there is still less much than china. Factory worker wages in China has reach roughly 40,000 to 50,000 rmb per year which is about 7-8 thousand US. It is understandable manufacturing sector in China is not going to be any easier in future years.
As for CSPIA basically a Screen printing association we are at a cross road. We are having problem to find the right road & direction to service members. We know our old traditional CSPIA function and activities can no longer satisfy members needs. Screen printing in China is so diversified into many different industry different applications, like garment, glass industry, touch panel for handphone, decals ( ceramic industry ). They donot necessarily employ the same screen printing setup, skill, equipment and process. They demand much more in depth skill, special equipment and material for their screen printing process. As for CSPIA so as other screen printing association it will be difficult to service such our memebers in different industry . How to help members to get update information in the market place, help them promote and sell products through expos, seminars. It is no longer effective to satisfy them by our traditional association infer structure and resources.. We know we need change. We are trying...but not easy. The update is we formed 4 to 5 special committees cater for each industry. Garment, touch panel, decal, glass industry. How these 5 special committees should work to offer better service to our members... we are not sure yet..
I came from Germany this trip for the big ( K-fair ) plastic exhibition in Dusseldorf. I had brief discussion with the CEO of Coates ink at the K-Fair who is an active member of ESMA. He told the same problem with ESMA assoication. Members of FESPA is loosing interest on FESPA as they cannot get value customers from traditional FESPA exhibition which is their main activity as a whole. Thererfore they join ESMA. They want ESMA to join them for niche expo to show their products to the right visitors. Held niche market seminars cater for each industry. These they said cannot get from FESPA.
We know the road ahead is tough, we have to learn from every possible way to improve CSPIA activities to service the Screen printing community in China. As always we are eager to learn from SGIA and other Assoications.
Well Gentlemen that is what I can report today. Thank you very much for your time.
Once again we wish SGIA had a great and successful Expo in next 3 days.
David Ho
CSPIA Chairman
