A 'micro' 3D printer available on Kickstarter for less than $300 raised its target of $50,000 in eleven minutes and has gone on to raise more than $1m (£597,000) so far.
The device is described as easy to use and measures 18.5sq cm (7.3sq inches). It is designed to be compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux and comes with software that allows users to search objects online then drag-and-drop objects to print.
Although Kickstarter supporters will receive the model for $299 or less, a retail price has not yet been set, although the company has stated that the price will 'be in the same region'. The first machines are due to be shipped in August 2014.
