A centre-hung display system from Daktronics has been installed at the Gran Canaria Arena ahead of its official opening to the public.
Incorporating 15 separate displays with ten millimetre line spacing, the centrepiece system consists of an 70 x 280cm upper ring display, four 350 x 610cm main screens, four 350 x 9.5cm corner monitors and eight 100 x 250cm outward-facing screens.
Two additional 90 x 600m displays located at the foot of the system allow those sitting on the sidelines better visibility, while the entire structure can be raised or lowered to the required height by a bespoke system designed by Daktronics for this specific installation.
The venue, which serves as one of six venues for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, also has an IPTV system in the main access corridors, VIP lounges and media rooms, which has also been provided by Daktronics.
"With a total surface of 150sq m of screens, it offers very impressive video quality, making it a unique installation in Spain," claims Ivan del Rio, regional sales manager at Daktronics Spain. "The Cabildo de Gran Canaria's original intention was to have an NBA-type basketball arena, and now they have it.
"It has been a great experience on a very sophisticated and complex project that presented very demanding challenges, but with a high level of technology and great support from Daktronics's whole team, it has been a complete success. This is now one of the most important centre-hung display references in Europe."
