Planar has broken new ground with an OLED transparent display which requires neither backlighting or a physical enclosure.
The 140cm (55") LookThru screen can be tiled to create videowalls and can be provided with optional touch capability for up to 32 simultaneous interactions. It is supplied in two models, for either table-top or ceiling mounts, or as part of a flush-mounted configuration. LookThru can also be used in portrait or landscape mode, thereby increasing its potential for a diverse range of applications such as room dividers, counters, retail displays and even as ticket booths.
The OLED screen boasts 45 percent light transmittance and can replicate colours at more than a hundred percent of the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard. It plays video resolution up to full HD and includes HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. As well as support for media players and consumer video devices, LookThru is compatible with several control systems, including LAN, Crestron and RS-232.
"Planar's transparent OLED offering creates new applications for display experiences never before possible," suggests Jennifer Davis, vice-president of marketing and product strategy at Planar Systems. "This revolutionary product provides new surfaces for storytelling and allows for a futuristic and modern aesthetic that has appeal across industries and applications."
Planar will show LookThru at InfoComm Connections New York this week, with the display slated for full commercial release in February next year.
