Judge Rules in Decade-Old Fight Over LED Billboards

A Tennessee Court of Appeals Judge has sided with the city of Knoxville, Tennessee, and against outdoor advertising company Lamar in a case whose roots go back a decade.

For the past 10 years Lamar Advertising Co. has sought to convert two vinyl billboards that it owns in the city into LED billboards. The city took them to court, saying that would violate its ordinances. Lamar’s claim was that the city ordinances contradicted state law and the company’s right to free speech as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

Not only did the judge rule in the city’s favor but the whole case stirred up a bit of a political brouhaha in this city of about 183,000. Read the full story from the Knoxville News Sentinel by clicking HERE
