Mentor, Ohio-based graphic films manufacturer Avery Dennison announces that president and chief operating officer Mitchell Butier has been promoted to president and chief executive officer, effective May 1.
The appointment is expected to be formally voted on at the company’s upcoming annual meeting of stockholders in late April. The board of directors nominated Butier to his new position and also to a spot on the company’s board of directors.
Current chairman and CEO Dean Scarborough will be moving over to serve as executive chairman of Avery Dennison’s board of directors upon Butier assuming his new position.
“Mitch has worked in various businesses and regions across Avery Dennison and in roles of increasing responsibility, including chief financial officer and president and chief operating officer,” Scarborough says. “He has been a close thought partner of mine and has been at the center of our most successful business strategies. Most recently, he has been the driver behind increasing the higher-value market segments of our portfolio. Just as important, Mitch is a champion of the values, integrity and high ethical standards that define Avery Dennison.”
Butier, 44, joined Avery Dennison from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2000 and has been president and COO since November 2014.
“Avery Dennison is a great company,” Butier says. We’re strategically well-positioned, with excellent prospects for profitable growth. I look forward to working with our board and our leadership team to build on our solid foundation as we continue to create value for our customers, employees and shareholders.”
In other Avery Dennison news, the company announces the appointment of Hassan Rmaile as its new global vice president of research and development for its materials group, effective immediately.
In his new role, Rmaile will oversee the materials group’s extensive global R&D network and focus on identifying new, disruptive applications while continuing to grow the core business.
Rmaile joins Avery Dennison from St. Paul, Minnesota-based H.B. Fuller company, a global industrial adhesives manufacturer. He had been that company’s vice president, chief technology and innovation officer. Before H.B. Fuller, Rmaile had held various roles at Ashland Inc., a specialty chemical company.
Rmaile replaces Sjaak Elmendorp, who retired from Avery Dennison recently after 22 years of service.
