Ripon Printers received 17 total awards in the 2016 Graphics Excellence Awards. The competition recognizes superb craftsmanship including registration, crossovers, clarity and neatness, sharpness of halftones and line drawings, richness and tonal qualities of color, paper and ink selection, ink coverage, difficulty of printing, effective contrast or softness, finishing, bindery, and overall visual impact.
Sponsored by the Great Lakes Graphics Association (GLGA), printing and finishing companies throughout Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin enter the contest each year. A panel of out-of-state judges with extensive experience in printing and print production examines the work. Each entry is judged on its individual merit within a category of similarly printed pieces.
Assisted by the outstanding creativity of its clients, Ripon Printers captured three Best of Category Awards, three Best of Division Awards, three Awards of Excellence and eight Certificates of Merit.
The first Best of Category and Best of Division winner was “MI Magazine – Issue 1,” produced by the advertising agency for Mark International. The category encompassed Architectural/Art/Travel/Other Magazines.
Winner of the second Best in Category award was “Elite Traveler – Into the Wild,” a piece published by Elite Luxury Publishing. The victory came in the Magazines (cover: sheetfed, interior: web) category.
The final Best in Category award went to “Do You Dream in Kohler,” published by the Kohler Company and competing in the Web Press Printing, Uncoated Paper (4 or more colors) category.
“Our craftspeople and customers continue to set new standards in design and print quality. The outcome of their work is not only evident in the awards they win, but also in the effectiveness of the materials they produce and publish,” says Ripon Printers’ President and CEO Andy Lyke.
