Seiko Epson Corp., a Japan-based manufacturer of printers and related technologies, announces the grand opening of its new inkjet printer plant in the Philippines.

Epson Precision is the company’s manufacturing subsidiary on that island nation.

The company says it’s preparing to increase inkjet printer and projector production this year and the new plant, which was completed at the end of June, provides extra inkjet printer production capacity. Meanwhile, an existing plant on the site began production on an additional projector production line at the end of July.

The company invested about $143 million into the new two-story, steel-framed building, which is approximately 354,000 square feet. It’s located adjacent to Epson’s existing 915,000-square-foot facility in the Lima Technology Center in Lipa City in the Batangas province, near the center of the country. The company said when it first announced the plant that it would boost its local work force by 60 percent, to 20,000.

“Epson Precision (Philippines) will play a critical role in Epson’s medium- and long-range business strategy,” says Epson President Minoru Usui. “The company and its new factory will contribute to inkjet innovation and visual innovation, two of the four areas of innovation we are targeting under the Epson 25 Corporate Vision.”
