The Greater Columbus (Ohio) Convention Center is home to a 14-foot interactive LED sculpture created by artist Matthew Mohr, who teaches at the Columbus College of Art & Design.

Mohr’s exhibit is called “As We Are,” and it’s composed of 24 horizontal bands of LED screens. The monitors wrap nearly all the way around the sculpture, except for a gap where there is a photo studio where guests pose for pictures. Their head shots are then projected onto the giant LED screens.

According to the Chicago-based website Colossal: “‘As We Are’ presents Columbus as a welcoming, diverse culture where visitors and residents can engage on multiple levels through an interactive experience with public art,” says Mohr in an artist statement about the interactive structure. “It is an open-ended, conceptual piece that explores how we represent ourselves individually and collectively, asking participants to consider their identity in social media and in public. It asks all viewers to contemplate portraits of people from different ethnicities, and gender identities.”

Colossal is a website that celebrates visual art, design and culture.

Colossal notes that the sculpture is somewhat similar to other interactive displays, including Chicago’s Crown Fountain by Jaume Plensa, which also displays a rotating cast of faces across a series of LED screens.
